Smith machine incline push-up is a compound smith machine exercise for the chest, also working the triceps, front delts, and abs.

How to do it

  1. 1Lock the Smith machine bar at about hip height and check that it cannot slide.
  2. 2Hold the bar with your hands a little wider than your shoulders and walk your feet back until your body is straight from head to heels.
  3. 3Bend your elbows and lower your chest to the bar, keeping your hips in line and your elbows angled back at about 45 degrees.
  4. 4Push the bar away until your arms are straight, without letting your lower back sag.
  5. 5Lower the bar a notch over time to make the push-up harder, or raise it to make it easier.
