How to do it

  1. 1Lie on your back with your legs straight and your arms stretched overhead on the floor. Your partner crouches beyond your head and holds your wrists.
  2. 2Relax your arms and let your partner pull them gently along the floor, away from your body.
  3. 3You should feel a long stretch down the sides of your back, under your arms and across your chest; keep your lower back on the floor.
  4. 4Hold for 20 to 30 seconds, breathing slowly, and tell your partner at once if it feels sharp or pinches in the shoulder.
  5. 5Have your partner ease off gradually before you bring your arms back down.
