How to do it

  1. 1Set a bench to a 30 to 45 degree incline and lie back on it with a dumbbell in each hand, arms hanging straight down by your sides.
  2. 2Keep your head, upper back and hips on the pad and a slight bend in your elbows.
  3. 3Raise the dumbbells forward and slightly out, in a shallow Y, until they reach about eye level.
  4. 4Move slowly and without swinging; the bench keeps your torso still so the front of your shoulders does the work.
  5. 5Lower the dumbbells back to the bottom under control, feeling a stretch at the front of your shoulders, then repeat.
